Name: Matthew Naimi
What is your job?
Founder and Director of Operations for Recycle Here! and Collaborator in the Lincoln Street Art Park / Ghetto Louvre.
What social causes are most important to you?
Recycling, the Environment, and Environmental Education are my main causes…. and animals.
What charity do you support – and how?
Green Living Science (GLS) is a non-profit organization in Detroit.
Why do you have a passion for this one in particular, is there a personal tie?
GLS was created by the staff at Recycle Here to teach Detroit students what ‘Green’ means.
The act of recycling is bolstered by the creation of good habits, and good habits are best created when we are young. It is especially rewarding to see young people inspire their parents to recycle based on the lessons learned from GLS.
Is there a particular way you would want to encourage readers to be involved?
The only way to change the planet is for individuals to take responsibility for their own actions. If everyone did something small to make this world a greener, more sustainable place…. The world would become a greener, more sustainable place.
How would you define social responsibility?
If you make your world a better place, it makes the world a better place. Be a good neighbor.
Do you have any tattoos that relate to your social/charitable beliefs/work?
I have the Recycle Bee on my left forearm. The ‘BEE Green’ is set on a bed of flowers and leaves, which represents growth and community. We created this image with local Detroit artist and friend Carl Oxley III to give Detroiters their own recycling image.
