Occupy Sandy: Grass Roots Help, And How YOU Can Help

There is no formal interview this week.  Sandy did too much damage.

As a former New Yorker, I know how we can come together, and how others can make a difference.

Here is a group working street level.  And, here's how YOU CAN HELP.

My name is Dylan, and I'm one of the countless volunteers working for Occupy Sandy Relief NYC.

My job has been working our social media fronts (namely our Facebook page and our Twitter) to answer questions and direct donations and volunteers to various donation/distribution hubs. As a group, we've been working non-stop collecting donations from across the city, state, and country, and distributing them to the most affected areas. We've been providing meals to those in need. Additionally, we've been transporting volunteers to areas where they're needed most.

The problems we're facing are problems being faced through out the NYC disaster area. For instance, we're having problems with gas shortages (and long gas lines), getting help out to the hard to reach places.

People close to the city can check with us online to see current needs and volunteering opportunities: interoccupy.net/occupysandy/

For people outside of the state and want to help, we're collecting monetary donations here: https://www.wepay.com/donations/occupy-sandy-cleanup-volunteers

We're also receiving donation shipments. Donation needs change from day to day, so it's best to check online to see what we need most. Our main shipment hub is:
St. Jacobi Church.
