Chase Dreamz for Book Bank Foundation and New Look Foundation

Name: Chase Dreamz

What is your job? Rapper/Entrepreneur

What social causes are most important to you?
Every issue facing our streets is relevant to me, but a few that hit me deep, are homelessness, hunger and domestic violence. Homelessness gets to me. We have vacant buildings all across the country yet people freeze, starve and die on the streets every night. I can't even count how many homeless veterans I've met. Our system is not set up for support from the bottom up, it's the other way around. Why? Domestic Violence bothers me more than anything. My mother was in an abusive relationship when I was a kid. I do as much as I can to be active for these causes and show my support for anyone who does the same.

What charities do you support – and how?
The Book Bank Foundation and Usher's New Look Foundation. This past Christmas season I participated in Book Bank's "Shelter for the Streets" campaign. We drove a 52 passenger bus, full of food, clothes and toys around to all five boroughs in New York City to help homeless and victimized people.

Additionally, I am a certified youth leadership trainer for Usher's New Look Foundation. I have hosted leadership training sessions in Atlanta, London and Hong Kong and continue to mentor to the youth whenever and wherever I can.

Why do you have a passion for this one in particular, is there a personal tie?
I have a personal tie to Usher's New Look Foundation because of the events that lead my family and I to it. A few years ago my door was kicked in and my Mom was held at gunpoint for a couple hours while three guys ransacked our home. It was from this near tragedy that my mother (and myself soon to follow) found a passion in helping prevent youth from ever getting into situations like that, on either side of the coin. I grew up around a lot of people that "hit licks" or did things like that for no explainable reason. It was crazy being on the other side of it, seeing my mother petrified.. I wouldn't wish that fear on my worst enemy.

My mentor and manager Glenn Toby is the founder of The Book Bank Foundation. One of the biggest issues they act on is homelessness, I definitely feel a personal passion towards homelessness and poverty.

Is there a particular way you would want to encourage readers to be involved?
I'll quote Lupe Fiasco, "a rebel in your thoughts ain't gonna make it halt". Issues in the world are not hard to find, we all know they are there, and the majority of us wish there was something we could do about it. Many people look at huge world issues like poverty and don't feel like there is much they can do. Don't underestimate the impact you can have. DO SOMETHING!!! Even if it's as small as taking food to a family you know is having problems, donating some of your like-new clothes or shoes to a young person who doesn't have much or even something as simple as mowing an elderly neighbors lawn. If everyone did something, these little small things can make a huge impact in the world.

How would you define social responsibility?
Social responsibility is mankind's duty to contribute to the positive progression of our species and society.

Do you have any tattoos that relate to your social work?
On my right tricep I have the word "GOD" but the "O" is split in half, making two "C's". The letters stand for G: Glenda, C: Cammie, C: Christopher, D: David, representing all of the people that helped raise me. On my right forearm I have a microphone with "NAP" engraved in it, which if you don't know stands for Indianapolis. Both tattoos are daily reminders to always support the people that have been there for me. The "A" in the microphone is the Atlanta "A". Both references always reminding me to go hard for my people in ATL and Indianapolis. On my left forearm I have the words "Stay Humble" to keep me grounded and remain selfless. On my left rib cage I have the word "Loyalty"… that speaks for itself.

Quick mention of your artists?
My guy Eddy at Sacred Hearts Tattoos in Lil 5 Points is ill with it, check him out!!
