49ers' Tarell Brown and the Brown's Kids Foundation

Name: Tarell Brown

What is your job? Cornerback – San Francisco 49ers

What social causes are most important to you? Empowering at-risk youth in under-served communities.

What charity do you support – and how? The Brown’s Kids Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for disadvantaged youth while creating an environment of care and support in areas of education, reduction of poverty and disparity.  We want to convey to all youth that no matter what your circumstances are, if you work hard, you can achieve your goals and succeed. Our organization seeks to encourage today’s youth to reach their full potential in both academic and athletic pursuits.

Brown’s Kids recently held the 6th Free Annual Football and Cheer Camp and Charity Weekend on June-14-15, 2013 in Mesquite, Texas.  Our goal is to promote our primary cause: “Protect Children, Empower Parents, Promote Education”. Throughout the year, additional events are held to raise money and give back to the community, including the upcoming back-to-school rally on August 10 in partnership with Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church. School supplies and money will be donated to youth by Brown’s Kids Foundation.

Why do you have a passion for this one in particular, is there a personal tie? I founded Brown's Kids Foundation, Inc. in 2012 as a way to give back to the community and to showcase the positive reinforcement that athletics and mentoring can give. We are determined to continue to reach our youth and show them that hard work DOES payoff.

Is there a particular way you would want to encourage readers to be involved? Charitable donations to Brown’s Kids are always welcome, as well as sponsoring events or participating as volunteers.

How would you define social responsibility? Social responsibility means that everyone has an obligation to contribute in a positive way to their community.
